For a good amount of time, the “Final Fantasy VII Remake” was but a pipedream to a lot of Final Fantasy fans. Rumors circulated here and there with not much credibility behind such grandiose claims. But the fact that a modern-day remake of one of the most beloved RPGs of all-time is actually a thing is still enough to make one pinch oneself to see if they were dreaming. So now that the hype is real and palpable, what does Square-Enix have up their sleeves in this remake?
For one, the battle system will be completely revamped. Fans might be disappointed to learn that the combat system for the “Final Fantasy VII Remake” will focus heavily the on fast-paced action than the traditional turn-based system, as reported by Techno Buffalo. Legendary game director Tetsuya Nomura, who just happens to be the lead director of the “FF7 Remake,” confirmed this when he spoke with Japanese publication Dengeki Online in regards to the change in combat.
In this interview, Nomura did not go into full detail about the new combat system for the “Final Fantasy VII Remake,” but he did explain some key features that fans can expect from the finished product. As per Gematsu, Nomura explains that although there was heavy demand for the remake to keep the original turn-based system, he and Square Enix decided that an action-oriented style would be best. “The battles in [FFVII] have greatly changed from the original since they’re something with more action in them,” Nomura stated.
Some will welcome this new direction in the game’s combat system, but for those who still want a more authentic “Final Fantasy VII Remake” experience, Nomura explains that they have not left traditionalists behind. He goes on to state that he and the game’s developers are working on “systems that future fans will be able to enjoy, so people who are bad at action-style battles, please don’t worry.”
Can gamers expect an alternative turn-based combat system for the “Final Fantasy VII Remake?” Will the new action-focused combat style work on such a classic RPG? Only time will tell. There is no definitive release date as of yet, but be sure to keep posted for the latest news on the “FF7 remake.”
