Black Ops 3 Developer Teases More DLC in 2017

In a recent live stream on their Facebook page, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 developer Treyarch teased the possibility of more DLC being added to 2015’s hit game, as well as a new feature for the Zombies mode, called “Newton’s Cookbook.” This would make for Black Ops 3‘s fifth content pack since the game’s release over a year ago.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was officially the best selling game of 2015 and Treyarch has reliably turned out a new DLC every few months since it was released in November of that year. These packs generally contain a few multiplayer maps, some extra missions, and also add to the franchise’s famous zombie mode. Things had been quiet recently until the live stream on the Treyarch Facebook page.

When asked what the team had planned for the immediate future, Treyarch’s Dan Bunting said that “I cannot say anything specifically at this point in time, but I can say that as Treyarch, we are excited about this game. And as long as they continue playing our game, we’re going to continue to support it in the same way. We can look forward to another healthy and fun year of updates in 2017.”

When pressed for comment, Bunting’s colleague Jason Blundell jumped in and said that a new zombie feature called “Newton’s Cookbook” was in the works, though he, too, would give no further comment except to dramatically draw a piece of paper from his pocket and deliver the line “I am afraid I cannot say anything right now.”

Such high drama aside, it looks like fans of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 may get more content after all, despite Treyarch saying that Salvation would be the last DLC a few months ago. This may have something to do with the fact that Black Ops 3 is one of the select few games to have launched with the PS4 Pro last month, but could also be connected with the game’s massive e-sports success that Bunting and Blundell mentioned in the live stream.

What will be interesting to see, is how the DLC fits in with Activision’s plans to bolster its 2016 Call of Duty releases, Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered. Both are set to receive DLC additions in the coming months and are likely higher on the priority list than Black Ops 3.

As is always the case with these teases, though, it remains to be seen what will come of it. Until then, players can always use the Black Ops 3 mod tools to put the features they want most into the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is now available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox360, and Xbox One.
