Call of Duty: WW2 ‘Not Currently’ in Development for Nintendo Switch

While Call of Duty: WW2 didn’t get a ton of stage time during the various E3 2017 press conferences, Activision and Sledgehammer Games have shared quite a few details about the game. The latest bit of news comes by way of Michael Condrey, Sledgehammer’s co-founder, who revealed via Twitter that Call of Duty: WW2 is not currently in development for Nintendo Switch.

When asked if Call of Duty: WW2 is in development for Nintendo Switch, Condrey simply stated: “not currently.” He went on to say that such a conversation was for the Activision “business guys.”

Unfortunately, there’s not a lot that gamers can deduce from Condrey’s comments, other than the current decision to not release Call of Duty: WW2 is a business decision on the part of Activision. It’s unknown if that decision is based on technical limitations of the Nintendo Switch, the time and effort it would require of the team to build it, or if there aren’t enough potential sales to make it worthwhile. Hopefully, the folks at Activision will provide a bit more clarity for why Call of Duty: WW2 isn’t coming to Nintendo Switch in the near future.

Fortunately, Nintendo had a very good E3 presentation, where it showed off quite a few titles that look promising for the young console-handheld hybrid device. Super Mario Odyssey, Yoshi, Metroid Prime 4, and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle are just a few of the upcoming titles that have many Nintendo fans excited.

Skyrim was also officially confirmed to be coming to the Nintendo Switch and will be complete with some unique bonus items just for the console, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gear for player characters. Additionally, Microsoft announced that the Nintendo Switch will be a part of a new cross-play experience available for Minecraft and Rocket League games. Nintendo Switch owners will soon get a chance to play both titles with Xbox One and PC gamers.

That said, it’s still disappointing that Call of Duty: WW2 won’t make it to the Nintendo Switch. The latest trailer for the game shows a very different environment and experience than players have seen from the franchise in recent years. It’s grittier, compelling, and will hopefully give the Call of Duty series the boost it needs.

It’s an exciting time for gaming. Hopefully, each of these games mentioned here lives up to the hype created during the last week.

Call of Duty: WW2 is set to release November 3, 2017, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
