Two currently buzzing topics in pop culture are colliding, as Doctor Who actor David Tennant has been confirmed as a voice actor in Call of Duty: WW2‘s Zombies mode. The 10th Doctor’s role in Call of Duty: WW2 was confirmed via a Sledgehammer Games tweet, part of the hype build-up for July 20’s Zombies mode reveal. It’s an especially opportune moment to mention Tennant since Doctor Who is about to announce who will be the franchise’s 13th Doctor.

According to the tweet, David Tennant will play a character named Drostan Hynd. It’s not a name yet revealed in one of the Sledgehammer’s several teasers for Call of Duty: WW2 so far, but there are perhaps other clues to be found. The name Drostan isn’t exactly a common one, and could perhaps take inspiration from one Saint Drostan. St. Drostan was a healer of some renown, said to work miraculous cures even well after his death. Or maybe Sledgehammer just figured Drostan was a fun Scottish first name.

It’s a subject that’s probably no fun for Activision and Sledgehammer, but earlier today the trailer for Call of Duty: WW2‘s Zombie mode was leaked. The mode will be officially named Army of the Dead and will feature not just Nazi zombies, but Nazi zombies that have been medically experimented on and “enhanced” in not-so-subtle ways. While exactly what kind of gameplay Army of the Dead features remains to be unveiled during the July 20 event, we at least know it’ll be co-op focused.

That means that Mr. Drostan Hynd will likely be one of the co-op characters that players can choose to take on the Army of the Dead. Tennant will then be a perspective with which to experience the horrible things the player will see and do while playing. Army of the Dead has been described as Dead Space meets Call of Duty, which means that Hynd is likely a British soldier caught up in a nightmare well above his pay grade.

According to the recent teaser information from Sledgehammer, Army of the Dead focuses on a group of people from an organization named The Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Program. They’re a group meant to retrieve artifacts that the Nazis have either found or stolen, and this Army of the Dead chapter might be focused on one such artifact, Barbarossa’s Sword. There’s likely much more to this story than what’s been hinted at so far, Tennant’s character Hynd’s role notwithstanding, but those reveals will have to wait until Comic-Con.
