Grand Theft Auto Online Details New Gunrunning Update

Just recently, the video game publisher Take-Two Interactive revealed that Grand Theft Auto 5 has shipped 80 million units since its release back in 2013, which means that a plethora of games is primed to experience Rockstar Games’ forthcoming Gunrunners update for the multiplayer component of the open world title. Today, the developer explained that the “massive” update is set to launch in June and gave fans a sneak peek at some of the impending content by way of few new screenshots.

As seen below in the gallery for the Gunrunning update’s materials, Grand Theft Auto Online is set to receive freshly weaponized military grade vehicles, weapons manufacturing equipment, as well as what Rockstar is calling “hatches” available for purchase that contain “full-service Mobile Operation Centers” that will also have new weapon upgrades. Not to mention, the next piece of DLC for the game will include a new amphibious vehicle called the APC and will give the Tampa a makeover complete with mounted guns.

Although Rockstar Games didn’t provide an in-depth rundown of what’s to come in Gunrunning, it looks as if the developer is building on the success of previously released expansions such as Executives and Other Criminals and the Bikers update. As it so happens, the studio wrote in a blog post regarding the next patch that “new opportunities are opening in a highly lucrative and equally malicious network hidden underground ripe for takeover by the VIPs, CEOs, and Biker bosses of Los Santos and Blaine County,” implying that even more, shady dealings are about to be afoot.

About a year ago, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick explained that fans should not expect Grand Theft Auto Online to be a permanent fixture and that the franchise will be “rested” when it seems necessary. However, it doesn’t seem like stoppage time is anywhere in sight, especially since the company recently declared during its last earnings call that GTA Online had another “record year.”

All things considered, it makes sense from a commercial standpoint for Grand Theft Auto Online to continually receive multiplayer content for the foreseeable future due to the fact that it’s such a major cash cow for both Take-Two and Rockstar. Of course, should this be the business model from here on out, fans will likely have to kiss the notion of ever getting the game’s long-awaited single-player DLC goodbye.

Grand Theft Auto Online‘s Gunrunning update releases this June for Grand Theft Auto 5‘s PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One versions.
