NetherRealm Studios turned a lot of heads last month when the studio revealed that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were joining Enchantress and The Atom in the third Fighter Pack for the DC Comics fighter, Injustice 2. While the Turtles aren’t expected until sometime in February, The Atom is being prepared to kick off the next wave of DLC this month when he releases on December 12th for Ultimate Edition and Fighter Pack 3 owners.
Longtime protégé of the former Atom Ray Palmer, scientist Ryan Choi joins the Injustice 2 roster armed with the character’s trademark quantum bio-belt along with a vast knowledge of physics. Squaring off with the likes of Black Manta in the trailer, Atom is able to change his size during a fight including shrinking to avoid normal attacks, which makes him nearly impossible to hit.
Atom is also armed with a number of interesting attacks as well, like a gun that puts his opponents in a sort of stasis for a few seconds and chemicals that can cause a few different reactions. Atom’s super move has him first shrinking down to inflict some heavy hits before uppercutting his opponents into the air and then growing supersized to slam them back down to the ground with a massive punch. While the animations have improved, the super is pretty close to what NetherRealm teased fans previously.
Fighter Pack 3 kicks off on December 12th when the Atom becomes available for Ultimate Edition and Fighter Pack 3 owners. While NetherRealm hasn’t revealed which fighter is expected next, most fans assume that Enchantress is coming in January followed by the highly anticipated debut of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in February. Beyond that, NetherRealm hasn’t confirmed or denied any additional DLC for Injustice 2, though many fans continue to hold out hope that characters like the heavily-teased Spawn will be added at some point as well.
