Nintendo has announced an event focusing on Switch games created by independent developers. The broadcast, dubbed the Nindies Showcase, is set to be streamed via the company’s official website 9 AM PT on February 28.
The company hasn’t confirmed any specific games as being included in the Switch showcase, but there are some titles we can expect to see highlighted with some certainty. In recent weeks, a multitude of indie games has been confirmed for the Switch, as Nintendo attempts to assuage fears about the console’s limited launch library.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed that futuristic racer Fast RMX and highly praised retro adventure Shovel Knight would both be available for the Switch on launch day. Last month, The Tomorrow Corporation announced plans to release three well-known indie titles on day one.
Those five titles will likely get a share of the spotlight on Tuesday, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see titles scheduled to release later on in 2017 featured as well. For instance, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ — which was recently delayed beyond the Switch launch, but should be released before the end of March — is likely to be among the games being shown.
We might also see throwback 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee as part of the event, even though there’s currently no confirmation that the Switch version of the game will launch alongside its other iterations on April 11. The spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie is among the most anticipated releases of the year, so an official release date announcement would be a welcome addition to the Nindies Showcase.
It’s difficult to ignore the gaps in the Switch’s software scheduled for 2017, but Nintendo could potentially plug many of the holes with re-releases of tried-and-tested indie titles. There’s already a good crop of indie games scheduled to hit the console, but more announcements at the Nindies Showcase event wouldn’t go amiss.
The Nindies Showcase for the Switch will be streamed on the official Nintendo website at 9 AM P.T. on February 28.
