Overwatch: Doomfist’s Gauntlet Has Been Stolen

Hot off the heels of the Twitter tease of Overwatch‘s newest hero, Blizzard has dropped another a major hint regarding what players can expect soon. The studio has rolled out a new update to the game’s Numbani map in Public Test Region (PTR) and it all points to one thing – something is going on with Doomfist and his gauntlet.

Following Friday’s Overwatch tweet about “OR15 defense units destroyed in confrontation with unidentified assailant at Numbani airport”, the Numbani map has been updated accordingly. The destruction of Numbani’s airport terminal first seen in the aforementioned tweet can now be seen in-game, with several destroyed OR15 machines littering the floors – including one being pulverized into the wall.

But perhaps the biggest and most telling change made to the Numbani map is the payload vehicle, as it appears that Doomfist’s gauntlet has seemingly been stolen from its capsule. This confirms what fans have speculated all along, as players had initially discovered unfinished models of the smashed Numbani payload two weeks ago.

And lastly, the final big change to the Numbani map can be found at the final spawn point in which the schematics for Doomfist’s gauntlet are now missing from its display, suggesting that there are some nefarious plans in store to either upgrade or mass-produce the gauntlet.

It is not yet known what the endgame is in regards to the stolen Doomfist gauntlet and schematics, but it certainly appears that Overwatch players will have a new threat to contend with soon. Given that Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan has stated the next hero is “not who you think it is”, fans are now suggesting that rather than having Doomfist join the hero roster (for now), players may have to face the character in a new PvE mode as part of some special limited time event.

As for how the newly-introduced character, Efi Oladele, fits into all this, fans speculate that the 11-year-old robotics prodigy will be forced to create something in order to ward off the threat of Doomfist and her creation will, in fact, be Overwatch‘s 24th playable character.

It appears that we may have answers soon as not only will season four of Competitive Play start very soon, Kaplan has hinted that bigger things are coming in the following days, so stay tuned for more updates and announcements.

Overwatch is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
