Red Dead Redemption 2 Will Have ‘Great Story’ and ‘Great Gameplay’

When developer Rockstar Games announced Red Dead Redemption 2, it promised that it would offer an “epic tale” of life in “America’s heartland.” The debut trailer for the game merely hinted at this, featuring seven cowboys as well as some beautiful landscape shots, giving players the smallest of tastes of what to expect.

There’s still so much that fans don’t yet know about the game, though, but now, an executive from Take-Two (Rockstar’s parent company) has offered a few more Red Dead Redemption 2 details.

Speaking during an MKM Partners event, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that “the times are right for a big, sprawling, optimistic view of America again–and that’s not meant to be cute.” A previous leak of the (alleged) Red Dead Redemption 2 map seemed to suggest that it wouldn’t feature any railroads and would feature much more water too, so if the new game is as big and as sprawling as Zelnick describes, gamers should expect to spend even more time on horseback and rowing boats (such as those featured in the announcement trailer) too.

Zelnick also said that Red Dead Redemption 2 will have “incredible emotional depth” and that fans “can expect there to be great story elements and great gameplay elements.” As anyone who has played the first game to completion can attest, Rockstar Games knows how to craft larger than life gameplay experiences. But with that said, it’s nice to know that the developer will continue to tug at player’s heartstrings as well.

Moreover, Zelnick said that he is “not shocked” but is “very pleased” with the reaction to the RDR2announcement and that anticipation for the game is “enormous.” Again, this isn’t a huge shock as the game has been on fans’ wish lists for years. At least one analyst has said that Red Dead Redemption 2‘s sales can exceed 15 million copies too and Zelnick’s comments are even more of an early indication that the game will achieve that.

Although many will welcome the Take-Two CEO’s words, they don’t exactly offer any more concrete information about the game. There are still unanswered questions about its multiplayer and just what Red Dead Redemption 2 online content PS4 players will have (timed) exclusive access to. Additionally, fans also want an outright statement from Rockstar about whether a Red Dead Redemption 2 PC release is possible and if the game will come to the Nintendo Switch. The Rockstar western isn’t scheduled for release until late next year, though, so details on all of this will come in due time.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently set to release sometime in the fall of 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
