Sony Entertainment recently launched “Tournaments” for their PlayStation 4. “Tournaments” is a new feature that will allow players to come together and compete in a game of their choice. While it is still in its early stages, there will be a limited number of games and modes, to begin with. Nevertheless, the tech giant is working on to make various other games available to the feature.
To welcome the NBA season, Sony made NBA 2k17 the first available game for “Tournaments”. The Major Tournament will be running from October 27 to November 26, with the Major Cup rounds happening every Saturday of the week. At the end of the Major Tournament, the top three winners will receive their respective prize pack that would contain items including a DualShock 4 controller and PlayStation gear, according to Indian express.
‘Tournaments’ has been made possible with the help of ESL, an eSports company. As a result, in addition to the requirement that a player must have the game and a PlayStation Plus membership to be able to participate, one must also have a linked ESL account.
The tournament can be found under the ‘Events’ tab on the PS4 system menu. Though, participants will be automatically prompted when it is time for a match. For this case, there is only one available type of match, the 1 vs 1, however, Sony will bring additional modes to ‘Tournaments in the near future.
Other than different types of matches, Sony will also be making more games available to ‘Tournaments’, some of them are WRC 5, Mortal Kombat X, and Project Cars, according to PCmag. There is no saying which one will come first or when further details will be available.
The range on what ‘Tournaments’ can do is still very vague, though it is expected that Sony will be able to make clear boundaries to users. The feature can be used to construct online contests which differentiate it from the already existing multiplayer feature.
