Overwatch‘s Sombra has been out on all platforms for about two weeks now and the expert hacker has become quite popular among the game’s player base. But now, it seems that Sombra is so popular, in fact, that she’s managed to hack her way into an entirely different video game: Street Fighter V.
As reported by Siliconera, a creative modder has found a way to create a Sombra skin for fighter Laura Matsuda. Some Street Fighter V fans did note upon Sombra’s reveal at BlizzCon 2016 that the new Overwatch character bears a resemblance to Laura and so modder The JamK’s creation isn’t all that surprising.
As seen in the above trailer, Laura’s abilities and emotes still look and sound the same while skinned, but it is pretty funny to hear “Sombra” use a decidedly different accent than what players are accustomed to. Visually speaking, however, it really does look like Sombra – a fact that perhaps shouldn’t be surprising as this isn’t the first time TheJamK has created an Overwatch skin for Street Fighter V.
TheJamK has also created Street Fighter V skins for Mei, Tracer and Reinhardt, so he’s clearly a seasoned pro at this sort of thing by now. As some gamers have noted, Overwatch‘s unique character designs seem to have attracted a lot of fighting game fans to Blizzard’s popular FPS, so this kind of merger between the two titles feels pretty natural. Blizzard has stated it might be a little while until it releases another Overwatch hero, but when it happens, it probably won’t be long until TheJamK or another Street Fighter V mod creator is on the case.
As far as more official support for Street Fighter V goes, Capcom recently announced that it envisions continued updates for the fighting game until 2020. On that front, the developer recently released a new stage that lets players go at it while fighting on the wing of a moving airplane. Many Street Fighter V players are also looking forward to next week’s PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, California, as Capcom has teased an upcoming character reveal for Akuma.
As for Sombra, Overwatch players are still trying to master her abilities while figuring out what will and will not work when skirmishing with other characters. Overwatch may be getting a Christmas event sometime in the near future, so perhaps the Hispanic hacker will get another new look for modders to play around with.
Street Fighter V is out now on PlayStation 4 and PC. Overwatch is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
