Nintendo has announced the Nintendo Switch, the official name of the NX gaming system.
“Introducing Nintendo Switch! In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video gameplay styles,” says Nintendo.
As rumors had indicated the Switch is a portable and home console hybrid, with detachable controllers.
At home, Nintendo Switch can be docked, enabling it to connect to your TV. Simply lift the Nintendo Switch from the dock and the system transforms into a handheld featuring a “bright high-definition display”
The Switch’s detachable “Joy-Con” controllers sit either side of the system. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one, or multiple Joy-Con can be connected for expanded multiplayer gameplay. A Nintendo Switch Pro Controller – styled in a more traditional way – will also be available.
The debut trailer shows off a range of games, including a new 3D Mario, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Zelda Breath of the Wild, NBA, and Skyrim.
