Watch Dogs 2’s Latest Patch Extends the Ending

Now that it has been a little more than several months since Watch Dogs 2 had its launch, that there are likely plenty of gamers out there who have already played through the open-world title’s story campaign and have experienced its ending. While that’s surely the case, those fans might want to give Ubisoft’s hacker-themed release a go once more in order to check out an extended version of Watch Dogs 2‘s original ending that has come about thanks to its most recent applied patch of 10 GB on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and 14 GB on PC.

While the full patch notes for Watch Dogs 2‘s latest update offer quite a few different changes, the most interesting alteration is easily related to the slight addition made to the game’s ending. Ubisoft’s post regarding Update 1.1 addresses the ending’s change, but it doesn’t give away all of the secrets, writing, “Without spoiling all of the fun in the patch notes, we’ll just say that if you’ve finished the story you should replay the last mission to watch a little extra something at the end.”

Since it’s safe to surmise that most people would rather miss out on Watch Dogs 2 spoilers if they haven’t completed or replayed the last mission, we will avoid posting any concrete details that occur so as to not ruin what happens. However, in the interest of intrigue, we will say that the addition to the ending potentially hints at the game’s follow-up taking place in a brand new location, for as Kotaku has mentioned, there are coordinates on-screen that seem to point towards Brixton, London.

It’s important to note, though, that this find in relation to Watch Dogs 2‘s ending could very well mean little to nothing at all, and could simply be an innocuous reference to the English city. Since the open-world title’s DLC has been confirmed by Ubisoft to take place in San Francisco, should the coordinates infer anything, it most likely would be a nod toward where Ubisoft would like to take the franchise next. However, all of this is pure speculation at this point in time.

Of course, with Watch Dogs 2 having released to lackluster sales when compared to the first entry in the franchise, it’s quite possible for Ubisoft to hold off on releasing a sequel anytime soon, as doing so might be a financial liability for the company. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the developer’s change to Watch Dogs 2‘s ending is either a setup a fun overseas mission to eventually be released in the Season Pass, or if it ties into the next installment in the series.

Watch Dogs 2 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One.
