World of Warcraft Cooking Show Premieres

World of Warcraft fans will now have yet another way to show their appreciation of their favorite game: a South Korean TV network will today start airing a cooking show based on the popular MMO. The title will be Wow! Recipe? The Meal Is Ready and will be presented by famous Korean TV chef Choi Hyun-seok, who besides being a household name in the Far Eastern country is also an avid World of Warcraft fan.

According to Kotaku, the show will be about cooking recipes associated with World of Warcraft and a quick look at the trailer reveals that many of the dishes Choi and his guests are working on have distinctly fantastical look to them. Some of the food looks like something fit for Orcs, with odd textures and strange colors. At one point we can also see a bunch of bananas being treated with a blowtorch, so even adventuresome cooks who don’t like World of Warcraft should be able to enjoy the show and maybe even get a few new ideas for their next dinner party.

Besides cooking, apparently part of the show will revolve around Choi and his guests talking about their World of Warcraft experiences, which is an odd combination until the South Korean obsession with the game is factored in. Though the country is usually associated with StarCraft fandom, professional players of that game are adulated millionaires, WoW is a close second, with thousands of active players and high-ranking league tournaments.

This popularity means that South Korea has many TV shows and merchandise available that may seem strange to most Westerners, even those that would like to find World of Warcraft gifts in their stocking. While fans stateside may be content with receiving an in-game Corgi, Asian gamers prefer to see a TV show like Wow! Recipe? The Meal Is Ready and maybe even try to recreate some of the dishes to eat at home for novelty’s sake.

The new cooking show comes at interesting time as World of Warcraft has returned to the limelight a little in recent weeks, partially thanks to the Legion update but also the WoW movie, both of which did very well with fans but a lot less so with everyone else. Though it remains questionable if a cooking show is the way to go when trying to attract new players to an MMO, existing fans of World of Warcraft are likely to love it.

World of Warcraft is now available on PC.
